2012 was a fantastic year for Nathaniel Welch. When 2011 ended, I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do with my next year. That being said, wandering aimlessly through the year I managed to have a lot of fun thanks to my friends and family.
January:
January was a simple month. I moved to a new office at Google (GWC2), attended Heroku's Waza and cooked dumplings with my roommates.
February:
In February, I celebrated my 24th birthday. I also went up to Santa Rosa and tasted the delicious "Pliny the Younger" at Russian River Brewing Company and went snowboarding in Tahoe at Squaw with Google Commerce.
March:
In March I traveled to Missouri with my mom to visit with my grandma for her 90th birthday and to see my mom's side of the family.
April:
In April I switched jobs. I started working as an Site Reliability Engineer in San Francisco for Google Compute Engine and Google Cloud Storage. I visited Seattle for work and saw Justice perform at the Fox in Oakland.
May:
In May, my roommates and I watched fireworks on the Golden Gate Bridge for its 100th Anniversary. I also started dating Diane.
June:
I visited Portland and Seattle in June. I went to Seattle for work and Portland for Open Source Bridge, a tech conference. I also walked in the San Francisco Pride Parade with Google.
July:
During July, I saw the Stone Foxes perform at Stern Grove, celebrated one year since the Punchd acquisition, and continued loving the San Francisco Google Office.
August:
In August, I attended Outside Lands, broke up with Diane, and attended Burning Man. Burning Man was amazing.
September:
In September one of my good friends Beck moved to SF and I visited NYC for a weekend.
October:
In October, I attended Startup School for the second time. Also, Alex Baldwin DJed a Halloween party at my house.
November:
During November, I saw Matt Nathanson perform in SSU's gorgeous new concert hall and visited Seattle again for a week for work.
December:
In December, I went to the Google Infrastructure Holiday Party, and also started dating Annie.
The whole year...
I listened to a lot of music:
And wrote a lot of code:
Next year I plan to...
- Code More
- Get in better shape
- Do More Art
- Graph more of life
- Publicly launch something at Google.
Happy new year everyone!
